As work continues to stabilize the walls of the sinkhole and the spike-like red tower that soars with and through the roof of the Skydome at the National Corvette Museum, the five cars that have been removed from the hole have been put on display in the museum’s Exhibit Hall.

Only four of the cars are in the Exhibit Hall, which primarily is occupied by a special display, GPS Adventures Maze, a display to teach youngsters about traditional and modern navigation techniques and about geocaching, a family-friendly treasure-hunting activity.

The fifth car remains in the Skydome, where it sits right behind the viewing window that allows museum visitors to watch the work within the dome.

Sometime, most likely in April, the three remaining cars will be removed from the sinkhole and they and the PPG Pace Car Corvette will join the others in a featured display in the Exhibit Hall. That display will include not only the eight vehicles, but other artifacts from the sinkhole and information about the geology of the Bowling Green, Ky., area.

In August, the damaged cars are scheduled to be transported to General Motors Design facilities in Michigan, where they are to undergo restoration.

As work continues beneath the Skydome, the museum remains open to visitors and plans continue for the museum’s big 20th anniversary celebration August 27-30The museum is open daily from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. (Central time), except on Easter Sunday, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve, Christmas and New Year’s Day.
