A $20,000 build at the time of its creation, the 1929 Cord L-29 sold for $2.42 million this weekend at RM Auctions. Of the 5,010 L-29s produced, only twelve are known to remain in existence. This “one-off” design was the first American car to receive awards at the Paris, Monte Carlo and Beaulieu Concours d’Elegance all in the same year and has remained quite popular ever since. According to RM Auctions, its accompanying document files are complete with comprehensive history, including a period description of the car with historic images of Count Alexis de Sakhnoffsky with his creation and another image with “Ziegfield Girl” Marion Dodge posing with the car, as well as restoration images, articles, correspondence and more.
